Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and I’ve always had my eye on Jaeger-LeCoultre. They just scream class and quality, you know? Recently, I got this idea in my head to try and imitate one of their models, the Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Duomètre Sphérotourbillon. Now, I’m no watchmaker, but I like a good challenge, you know?
First off, I started by gathering all the information I could find about this watch. I spent hours looking at pictures, reading articles, and watching videos. I wanted to understand every little detail about it. The real deal is a masterpiece, with its dual-wing design and that crazy spherical tourbillon. It’s a whole other level of watchmaking.
Then, I started looking for parts. I mean, where do you even begin? I hit up all the usual online spots, looking for anything that could help me get that look. It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. Finding parts that even resemble what’s in a Jaeger-LeCoultre is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. But I managed to find some stuff that was close enough.
Next, I tried to piece it all together. This was the hardest part, no joke. I had to modify some of the parts I found, just to get them to fit right. I was basically playing watch surgeon, except I didn’t really know what I was doing. There were times I thought I’d ruined the whole thing, but I kept at it.
The Trial and Error Phase
There was a lot of trial and error. I mean, a lot. I’d get something to work, then something else would break. It was a constant battle. But slowly, piece by piece, it started to come together. I was actually starting to see something that resembled the Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Duomètre Sphérotourbillon.

First major hurdle: Getting the hands to fit. The original has these beautifully crafted hands, and finding something similar was tough.

Second hurdle: The dial. The Duomètre Sphérotourbillon has a unique dial, and replicating that was a pain.

Third, and biggest hurdle: The tourbillon. I knew I wasn’t going to get a working spherical tourbillon, but I wanted something that at least looked the part. This was the hardest part to get right, and honestly, it’s still not perfect.
After weeks of work, I finally had something I was kind of proud of. It’s not a Jaeger-LeCoultre, not by a long shot. But it’s my imitation, and it’s got that vibe, you know? It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. And I learned a lot along the way. I don’t think anyone would mistake it for the real thing, especially not in one of those fancy watch stores, but it’s good enough for me.
It is such a long way to go! But I really enjoyed this process, made me love this watch even more. All the watches from the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre 2024 collection are now available, but I’m happy with my imitation for now.
