So, I got this wild hair to try and remake the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL bag. Yeah, the one from the official store. I saw it online, you know, on their online store – the BLACK LE CARR satchel in BOX SAINT LAURENT, and I just thought, “I bet I could do that!”
First, I started looking up all the pictures I could find. I checked out those fancy photos from Neiman Marcus, the ones that make everything look super sleek and perfect. They had some good shots of the latest collection, so I really focused on those. I needed to see every angle, every detail.
Then, I got to work sketching it out. I’m no artist, but I did my best to copy the shape and the size. It’s a pretty simple design, but you know, the devil’s in the details. I made a bunch of notes about the hardware, the strap, the way the flap closes – all that stuff. I must have done like, ten different drawings, each one a little better than the last.
After that, I had to find the right materials. I went to a few different fabric stores, looking for that smooth, black leather – or something that looked close enough. Found some decent stuff, not perfect, but it would do. And the hardware? Oh man, that was a pain. I ended up ordering some pieces online, hoping they’d match the real deal.
Next up was cutting the leather. I used my sketches as a pattern, tracing them onto the back of the leather and then carefully cutting everything out. It was slow going, let me tell you. One slip and you’ve ruined a whole piece. I think I held my breath the entire time I was cutting.
- First cut: Main body of the bag.
- Second cut: The front flap, making sure it was just the right size to overlap the body.
- Third cut: The sides and bottom, which were tricky because they had to be just the right width.
- Fourth cut: The strap, long and thin, had to be sturdy.
Sewing it all together was the real challenge. I don’t have one of those fancy industrial sewing machines, just my regular one. But I took it slow, using a heavy-duty needle and thick thread. It wasn’t easy, especially around the corners and where the strap attached. Had to redo a few seams, but hey, that’s part of the process, right?
Finally, I added the hardware. The buckle, the little metal pieces on the strap – it all came together. It wasn’t a perfect match to the real YSL bag, but it was close. Close enough to make me feel pretty darn proud of myself.
The Result
In the end, I had a bag that looked a whole lot like the LE CARRé SATCHEL. It wasn’t exactly the same, but it had the same vibe, the same style. And you know what? I made it myself, from scratch. That’s a pretty cool feeling. It took a lot of time, a lot of patience, and yeah, a few mistakes along the way. But I learned a ton, and I ended up with a bag that I love, even if it’s not the real thing.
