Okay, so here’s the deal. I decided to remake a Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, the medium one. You know, it’s kind of a classic, and I’ve been wanting to do this for a while.

Getting Started

First things first, I needed to get all my materials together. I already had some leatherworking tools from other projects, but I needed the right kind of leather. This bag is made from Saffiano leather, which has this special cross-hatch texture. I looked up online and learned a thing or two from the official Prada store.

The Process

I started by creating a pattern. I carefully studied pictures of the bag, measured my old similar bag, and sketched out the different pieces. Then, I cut the pattern out of paper. This part took a while because I wanted to get it just right. A real pain, I tell ya.

  • Cut the leather: I laid the pattern pieces on the Saffiano leather and carefully cut them out. Precision is key here.
  • Skive the edges: This means thinning out the edges of the leather so they’re not too bulky when sewn together. It’s a bit tricky, but necessary.
  • Assemble the pieces: I started sewing the pieces together, inside out. I used a saddle stitch, which is super strong and looks nice. My fingers sure got a workout!
  • Add the hardware: This bag has some metal details, like the logo and the zipper pulls. I attached those carefully.
  • Turn it right side out: This was the moment of truth! I carefully turned the bag right side out, and it started to look like the real deal.
  • Finish the edges: I applied some edge paint to give it a polished look. And that’s it!

The Result

It took a lot of time and effort, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it definitely looks like a Remake Prada Galleria bag. I’m not gonna lie, it’s a solid B+ effort in my opinion. It feels good to have made something with my own two hands. Plus, I learned a ton about bag making in the process. I even took some photos to document the whole thing. Maybe I’ll do a video tutorial next time. If anyone is interested, just let me know!

This whole project got me thinking. These fancy designer bags, they’re really just made of leather and metal, same as any other bag. It’s the craftsmanship and the brand name that make them so expensive. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading about my little adventure. Until next time, folks!
