Okay, so today, I want to talk about something I got my hands on recently. I tried my best to remake this super cool watch, the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001, you know, the one they only sell at their fancy stores. It’s got this old-school mechanical movement and a creamy-colored dial.
First off, I spent a ton of time just staring at pictures of this watch online. I mean, this Gondolo thing, it’s not your usual round watch. It’s all rectangular, which is part of what makes it so interesting. I guess Patek Philippe calls these their “form” watches because they’re not afraid to play around with shapes.
Then, I started messing around with some materials. This was not easy. I needed something that looked like rose gold. And finding the right material for that rectangular case, man, that was a pain. Patek Philippe makes these watches with all these different case shapes – rectangular, tonneau, cushion – it is all over the place.
- Drawing and Measuring: I started by drawing and figuring out the size of everything. This watch has this strong Art Deco vibe to it, so I wanted to make sure I got those details right.
- Building the Case: After that, I tried to build a case that looks kind of like the original. It is not perfect, but it kinda looks like it.
- The Dial: The dial was another headache. It’s this simple, creamy color, but getting that exact shade was tough. After a million tries, I finally got something that looked okay.
- Putting It All Together: Finally, I put it all together. It is not a real Patek Philippe. I just wanted to see if I could make something that looked like one.
Honestly, it didn’t turn out as perfect as I’d hoped, but it was a fun experiment. It’s really hard to copy those high-end watches! They use fancy machines and have expert watchmakers, which I definitely am not.
It made me appreciate the real thing even more, you know? But yeah, that was my little project. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
