Today, I wanna talk about this Rolex Black Submariner, the classic style. I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and I recently got my hands on a pretty good fake of this bad boy. Let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride figuring out how good it actually is.
So, first off, I started by just wearing the thing. You know, getting a feel for it. They say the real ones are heavy, and this one’s got some weight to it too, but maybe not as much as a genuine Rolex. I wore it around, showed it off a little, and honestly, most people couldn’t tell the difference. It’s got that classic look, the black dial, the rotating bezel, it’s all there.
Then, I got curious. I started digging around online, trying to figure out what makes a real Rolex tick and how to spot a fake. I read a bunch of articles, watched some videos, the whole nine yards. Learned about the serial numbers, the engravings, the way the movement works, all that stuff. It’s actually pretty interesting, even if you’re not a watch nerd.
- Serial Number: Look for the serial number on the 6 o’clock side where the band connects to the lug. Real Rolex serial numbers are deeply engraved, not etched.
- Case Back: Most real Rolex watches have a plain, smooth case back. If it’s see-through or has engravings, it might be a fake.
After doing all that research, I started looking closer at my fake Submariner. I checked the serial number, and yeah, it’s definitely not as deeply engraved as they say the real ones are. The case back is plain, which is good, but I don’t have a real one to compare it to, so who knows.
Now, the movement is where things get tricky. I’m no watchmaker, so I can’t take it apart and compare it piece by piece. But I did notice that the second hand doesn’t sweep as smoothly as I’ve seen in some videos of real Submariners. It’s got a tiny bit of a stutter, not really noticeable unless you’re looking for it.
So, what’s the verdict? Well, this fake Rolex is a pretty decent imitation. It looks the part, it feels okay on the wrist, and it keeps time well enough. If you just want something that looks like a Submariner, and you’re not trying to fool anyone, this might do the trick. Also, I found out there are some other brands, like Stuhrling and Bulova, that make watches that look similar to the Submariner but are way cheaper. You know, Casio Duro is also a cheap option.
But, and this is a big but, it’s not a real Rolex. There are differences, even if they’re small. If you’re thinking about buying a used Rolex, you gotta be careful. Do your research, know what to look for, and if possible, get it checked out by a professional.
