Okay, so the other day, I decided to try my hand at making a high imitation of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, the official flagship store version. I’ve always loved this watch, but let’s be real, the price tag is way out of my league.
I started by doing some digging online, looking for info on the materials and the movement. It was tough, I gotta say. There’s a lot of detail that goes into these watches. I spent hours just researching, trying to figure out the specifics of the genuine model.
After I felt like I had a decent understanding, I started gathering the materials. Finding high-quality parts that looked the part wasn’t easy. I ended up ordering from a bunch of different suppliers, hoping to find the best matches. Some were pretty good, others were, well, let’s just say they weren’t up to par.
Then came the assembly. This was the hardest part, hands down. I needed to be super careful, making sure everything lined up perfectly. It was like putting together a really complicated puzzle, but with much higher stakes. There were a few times I thought I’d messed it up completely.

Finally, after what felt like forever, it was done. I wound it up, set the time, and put it on my wrist. I gotta say, it looked pretty darn good. It had some weight to it, just like the real thing. Of course, it wasn’t perfect. A trained eye could probably spot the differences, but to the average person, it looked just like a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona.
This whole experience was a real challenge, but it was also a lot of fun. I learned a ton about watchmaking, and I ended up with a pretty sweet-looking watch. Would I do it again? Maybe.
