Okay, so I’ve been seeing this YSL College bag everywhere lately. It’s got that classic look, you know? Like it’ll never go out of style. I started thinking, “Why not try to make one myself?” I mean, I’ve been into crafting for a while now, and I figured, how hard could it be? Plus, it would be way cheaper than buying the real deal.
First things first, I gathered all my materials. I needed some good quality leather, a sturdy chain, some metal hardware for the logo and clasps, and of course, a sewing machine. I found some nice black leather at a local craft store. It wasn’t cheap, but I wanted it to look as close to the real thing as possible.
Next, I studied the actual YSL College bag. I looked at pictures online, paid attention to the shape, the size, the stitching, everything. It’s basically a rectangle with a flap, kind of like an envelope. I drew up a pattern on some paper, making sure the dimensions were right. Then, I cut out the leather pieces according to my pattern.
Now came the tricky part: sewing. I had to be super careful to make the stitches straight and neat. I started with the main body of the bag, then attached the flap. It took some time, and I definitely made a few mistakes along the way, but I kept at it. I used my sewing machine for most of it, but some parts, like attaching the hardware, I had to do by hand.
- Sewing the main body: This was the biggest part, and I took my time to get it right.
- Attaching the flap: This required some precision, as I wanted the flap to align perfectly with the body.
- Adding the chain: I found a gold chain that matched the one on the real bag. I attached it to the sides of the bag using some metal rings.
- Creating the YSL logo: This was the hardest part. I ended up using some metal sheets and carefully cut and shaped them to form the letters “YSL.” Then, I attached it to the front flap.
After a lot of work, it was finally finished. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty darn proud of it. It looked a lot like the YSL College bag, and it held all my stuff just fine – my phone, wallet, keys, the usual.
The Outcome
Honestly, it was a lot more work than I expected. But I learned a ton about working with leather and sewing. Plus, I ended up with a bag that looked pretty close to the real thing, for a fraction of the price. I started using it, and people always asked if it is a real one. I said it’s my handmade bag, and they were always surprised.
Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s definitely not a project for beginners. But if you’re up for a challenge and you want a stylish bag without breaking the bank, it might just be worth a shot.
If you are looking for something classic, this bag is for you. I believe you can make it too, just like me!
