Went with a classic brown leather one, nothing too fancy.
Once I had all the parts, it was time to put this thing together. Now, I’m no watchmaker, but I’m pretty handy. I carefully opened the case, placed the dial, and secured it. Then came the tricky part – setting the hands. You need a steady hand for this, let me tell you. But after a few tries, I got them on there, nice and straight.
Finally, I added the movement. I didn’t manage to get my hands on a Patek Philippe movement obviously, they are quite rare and expensive, but I used a decent quality automatic movement. Then the strap goes on. It’s not rocket science, but it does take a bit of patience.
And there it was, my very own Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227J-001 remake. It’s not perfect, of course. There are some minor differences here and there, and it’s definitely not worth the same as the real thing. But hey, it looks pretty good on my wrist, and I’m proud of it. It’s a reminder that sometimes, you can create something special with a little bit of effort and a whole lot of passion.
Reflection
This project was a blast. It was fun, challenging, and I learned a lot along the way. Plus, now I have a cool watch to show for it. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Maybe next time I’ll try a different model. Who knows? The possibilities are endless.
