Okay, so let’s talk about this Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001, that is the model I’ve been obsessed with lately. This watch, man, it’s a beauty. But, getting your hands on one? Good luck! They’re super hard to find in the stores. So I’m gonna try to remake one of my own.

First thing I did was research, because you have to research before making a remake. The real one’s got a white gold case, it’s 39mm, which is pretty tiny, and it can go a really long time without needing to be wound. There is a term they called power reserve.

I started gathering all the materials I needed. Finding similar-looking parts was a real pain. I spent hours, days even, checking out different places. But, you know, this is part of the fun, the challenge, right? I wasn’t trying to make a fake, just something that felt like the real deal.

  • The Case: I couldn’t find white gold that wouldn’t break the bank, so I went with a good-looking stainless steel case that had a similar shape and size. It took forever to find one that felt right.
  • The Movement: This was the hardest part. Getting a movement that looked and worked like the original was tough. I ended up using a different one, but one that was still reliable and had a decent power reserve, I think.
  • The Dial and Hands: I found a dial that was pretty close in design to the 6119G-001. The hands were a bit tricky, but I managed to find some that looked similar enough. I just want it to have that classic look, you know?

Putting it all together was like doing a really complicated puzzle. I used some of the tools I had, plus some new ones I had to get, I followed some tutorials online, made a lot of mistakes, but kept going. Each little piece had to fit just right. It was frustrating at times, but also super satisfying when things started to come together.

The Result

So, after all that work, I finally finished it. Is it perfect? Of course not. But I’m really proud of what I was able to do. It looks pretty darn good on my wrist, and it keeps time well. Plus, I learned a ton about watches and how they work during this project. It was a cool experience, a real test of patience and determination. I feel like I can take on any project now! I will keep practicing and maybe one day I can make a perfect one.
